From a spark to a movement.
How three friends turned a pandemic-era observation into a province-wide mission.
A simple observation
Shining Sparks Ontario Inc. was born in 2020 from a simple observation by brothers and friend Bilal Khan, Haroon Khan, and Amaar Amjad: every child has the potential to excel, but not every child has the same access to the tools they need. What started as a small, peer-to-peer tutoring initiative in our local community has grown into a structured, province-wide mission to close the educational gap.
Beyond the Screen
We believe that students are uniquely positioned to help other students. By removing financial barriers to high-quality academic support, we create a space where learning is accessible, relatable, and empowering.
Our "Beyond the Screen" philosophy drives us to turn these values into action. This is why we actively partner with community leaders like Sakeenah Homes to provide essential school supplies and academic mentorship directly to youth in transitional housing. A student's circumstances should never limit their potential, and through these collaborations, we ensure no child is left behind.
Proven community impact, growing partnerships
In 2024, we collaborated with Sakeenah Homes to distribute essential school supplies and backpacks to youth in transitional housing. In 2026, that impact earned us the Milton Youth Group of the Year and Oakville Youth Leadership awards, and a new partnership with the Town of Oakville and HDSB to run backpack fairs across the community.
1,000 families, and counting
Our journey is just beginning. While we're proud of the 1,000+ hours of tutoring we've provided, our ultimate goal is to bring hope and academic stability to 1,000 struggling families across Ontario.
By expanding our network of volunteer mentors and deepening our partnerships with community shelters and the Town of Oakville, we're committed to turning this vision into a reality. Join us as we work to ensure that every student has the spark they need to succeed.
